How does the new menu of Slab La Mer fare?

Last Updated on September 10, 2018 by hungryoungwoman

With the coming of the summer months, SLAB La Mer has launched its new menu. It’s almost hard to believe that the second menu has already completed its 12-week run time. The menu brought in some healthy dishes that also made an appearance in its Ramadan menu.

The new summer menu is sharing concept and the layout is different from the previous versions, however, the price point remains almost the same. There’s a new section for Bread Lovers from which we order BLT [AED 55]. This is served as an open sandwich with veal bacon inside grilled sourdough. Although this comes as a main course, we think this could be THE dish for a hearty breakfast any day.

Well thought out and perfect for the heat in Dubai, Rosemary Breeze is a drink that the usual customer wouldn’t order. But, we recommend this! First, it’s a gorgeous purple color that comes due to blueberries present in the drink. The base is lemon juice so the taste palette is a good balance of sweet and tangy, while the rosemary just adds a little spiciness.

Our server is very knowledgeable about the menu and helps us choose our dishes. We ask for the Tart Flambee [AED 55], Broccoli Couscous [AED 40], Watermelon Salad[AED 35], and Charred Corn [AED 35] for starters. The Tart Flambee is a strong favorite and perhaps one of the best dishes on the menu! The sweet onion has a smoky taste and the tart is crisp topped with crispy veal bacon making it a stunning dish. The broccoli couscous is a revamped version of their salad from the first menu. Broccoli presented couscous style held together with dates, pistachios, ras el hanout, and greek yogurt.

For the main course, we have Smoked Beef Jam [AED 60], KFC [AED 45], and Rib Eye Steak [AED95], with Potato Tostones [AED 25] on the side. The next favorite is the Smoked Beef Jam that Chef Omar suggests. Perfect for breakfast as well or even good as a main course for one person.

If there’s one thing I look forward to when I’m trying new menus, it’s dessert. Everyone knows how fond I am of them and no matter how full we may be, there will always be space for dessert. Are you like that too?

We end our fantastic meal with something that is so synonymous with the summer months for me – Tres Leches [AED 40]. As opposed to the various flavors of milk cakes available in Dubai, this Tres Leches is a play on the original version by topping it with summer fruits, i.e., berries and peach topping it with cornflake crunch for that texture.

If we are going back to Slab La Mer: A resounding yes! I haven’t been shy about recommending SLAB before as they have always been consistent in their service and food. Also, their pricing is quite affordable when compared to other restaurants and the quality is top-notch.

Have you visited SLAB? How was your experience?

Until then, happy eating! xx
