Pretty Italian – Borgo Vecchio

This restaurant probably wins the award for the prettiest dishes. The area itself is quite lovely. Located in Downtown Dubai, the place proved a bit difficult to find, but a call to the restaurant and we were headed on the right track.

Chandeliers, framed paintings and candelabra on tables, the interiors are nothing, but elegant.

Pretty place, pretty interiors and a pretty take on dishes, will the Borgo Vecchio prove worthy to all the hype? We’ll find out.

We started on our order right away, for drinks we asked for some fresh juices; apple, lemon & mint and carrot & orange. These were specially prepared by our server, Caesar, who was quite friendly and entertaining.

Pomegranate and Gorgonzola Salad

Burrata cheese with cherry tomatoes
Bruschetta with fresh tomatoes

For starters, we had some Bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, Pomegranate and Gorgonzola Salad, Burrata cheese and fried prawns.

I loved the fried prawns with sauce. The burrata and bruschetta were quite usual as there’s nothing really that can be messed with it.

Grade 9 Wagyu Beef Tenderloin
Eggplant and Mozzarella Parmigiana
Roasted Leg of Lamb with potatoes

Coming to the mains, we ordered quite a variety.

From the mains, my favourite was the Sea Bass with mashed potatoes. This dish was so well presented and fantastic! The soft sea bass with creamy potatoes and peas puree is a must order dish.

I also liked the ravioli with black truffle carpaccio. The sauce had a strong taste of truffles and this is what I liked. Garnishing with pine seeds was a good addition.

Next, we ordered the Italian Pepperoni pizza which paled in comparison to the other dishes that were executed quite perfectly. We found the crust a bit too hard to bite into, therefore, were not able to finish much of it.

We also tried the Eggplant fries that was served as sides, a nice change from the usual potato fries.

After a hearty meal, I HAD to try the Tiramisu that everyone raved about. And it was so good, that we had to order another one! The creamy coffee flavoured dessert with the caramel sauce it was sitting on was totally worth the calories. Garnished on the side were pieces of honeycomb and sticky toffees.

Sadly, the other sweet treat didn’t do justice to the dish. The chocolate lava cake was everything it should be, with a little spicy flavour to it. But, after trying the Tiramisu, this would definitely be the second choice.

The meal ended on a beautiful note and I was quite happy with my experience. With the temperature dipping down and the festive season, there no reason not to indulge in a little elegance. A few calories are allowed 😉

Until next time…
