I’m not the smiling person you see…unless I’ve had my first cup of coffee. And when you are required to drive to Downtown Dubai and give a sweet smile to your server before you’ve had one, the thought seems almost impossible.
But when you’re excited to sample a menu, it seems worth it right? And why would I want to be a slave to the bean? So, we head down to Fumé in Downtown Dubai and are just settled, when the first thing I ask for is a cup of coffee!
Once I’m back to my right senses, I notice the decor of the place. Wooden interiors with an almost rustic feel to the atmosphere. Not to miss is the stunning view of Burj Khalifa, which is what we were seated in front of.
The service was slow considering how packed the restaurant was on a holiday. Fumé serves breakfast on weekdays from 8-10 AM and weekends from 8-12 PM.
Our order comes within 20 mins which is a relief as the coffee took longer than that. The Eggs Benedict with bacon is perfectly runny like we asked for. Simple and a good choice to start your day with. But our favorite was the Beach Board [AED 79] which came with a selection of smoked salmon, bresaola, chorizo, avocado, and eggs of course. All of that with sourdough bread. Sort of like a DIY sandwich.
All good breakfasts must end with dessert, so we ask for the popular Lotus Pancakes that we’ve seen so much of online. Sadly, these were out of stock which resulted in a greedy indulgence of the well-known Monstershake [AED 52]. Chocolate milkshake with Nutella topped with a massive chocolate brownie (or a giant muffin) filled with marshmallow fluff. One would expect nothing could go wrong with this. Unfortunately, this is what led to the downfall of our “great breakfast experience”. The milkshake runny, the brownie too heavy and overly sweet, let’s just say we couldn’t finish it.
The saving grace is the Date and Banana Pudding with custard sauce [AED 46], the sweetness of the cake excellently toned down by the soothing taste of custard.
If I’m going back: The menu items look promising so we’d give them a try if we’re around the area. The Lotus Pancakes seem a favorite as seen by their nonavailability, so that’s one thing you can add to your list as well.
Maybe I’m just not a fan of extravagance and prefer happiness in simple things, but these Monstershakes have been quite the talk of the town. Do try it and let me know what you think?

Until then, happy eating! xx
This is one of my favourite breakfast places, and a must for me when I have guests in town… although much more fun in the cooler months when you have an uninterrupted view of the Burj. Highly recommend the Organic Cheddar Eggs if you head back that way. Perfect with a side of avo, and their homemade jams on the sour dough toast. 🙂
Thank you for your suggestions! Yes, thinking of heading back once the climate gets cooler. Probably outdoor seating next time and their homemade jams ❤️
