Lounging At Café Italiano

Last Updated on October 27, 2016 by hungryoungwoman

I love how cafés are coming up in Dubai. There’s one at every corner, and though all of them might not be the best, there are some that really catch your attention. A café usually serves coffees with a few selection of pastries. But this has changed now with menus that almost imitate a full-fledged restaurant.

Lounge Café Italiano, located in Dubai Media City, is something along the same lines. Glance through the menu and you can easily spot steaks and Shakshuka? (In an Italian café…ahem) We decided to start our meal with some healthy avocado based smoothies, while my other guest opted for a tangy drink.

Served as starters were bruschetta and their freshly made bread. The Chef personally explained the different flours that were used. Have a look below…

Since the Chef chose a set menu for our party of three, we let him take the reins. From which, our mains included a burrata, Chef’s signature ravioli and a good ol’ margherita pizza.

I usually find ravioli a bit too bland for my taste, unless they are presented differently. Like the one at Tribeca where a beetroot puree was used as stuffing on a bed of pea foam. But this one was so comforting. A ricotta cheese and spinach ravioli in a formaggi sauce.

We were quite satiated when the Chef brought out our last meal, the Margherita, which was the usual. Nothing to write home about.

What arrived later was the dessert selection; Tiramisu, Chocolate Mousse and Cheesecake. Creamy and thick, the Tiramisu was definitely something I’ll remember. But, the cheesecake stole the show here. Being a sucker for cheesecakes that are thick and creamy and a low sweetness quotient, this definitely fulfilled all those points.

The service was quick and friendly, as was the vibe of the place which reminded us of our time back in Europe. The coffees were splendid too and would go really well with the selection of pastries available. Definitely coming back again for these!

Verdict: As the Chef desperately tried to woo us, we were left with an experience that was mediocre. Yes, Lounge Café Italiano is a nice pâtisserie with good drinks and the outstanding ravioli, but that’s about it.

Until then, happy eating! xx
