A long search on Zomato for hidden gems brought me to Fusilli Reasons. Located in Kilpauk, Ormes Road, this restaurant can be easily missed if you’re not paying attention to the streets on both sides.
Chennai has become a hub for youngsters to hang out during wee hours in the night. Fusilli serves just that. Although they’re available only till 11 pm, it’s a start for the Chennai dining scene. It is a rather small area that is covered using about five tables inside and one outside which can be used for waiting. The place is usually crowded and it took us around 15 minutes to get seated and place our order.
Let me talk about the vibe, there is chitter-chatter, which makes it really lively. Also, fast service so that customers can eat and leave. Sort of like McDonald’s. They have a good tactic of not providing home deliveries, this makes people line up and encourages more orders. I could see a lot of takeaway orders. The menu is really short and simple. They have three types of Garlic Bread, five types of Pasta, Nachos and a few drinks. And did I mention that this place is really pocket-friendly?
The food is served in disposable dishes, which can be easily thrown away. Good thinking here, which applies more to the concept of McDonald’s.
We settled for the Beetroot Mayo (which was recommended by almost anyone who had visited the place), assorted garlic bread, nachos and portions of pasta with pesto, white and mixed sauce. For drinks, we ordered Ice Tea. I totally recommend this one! You can quench your thirst for just 30 Rs.
The beetroot mayo as a topping was amazing! I could have this all my life! The bread was crispy but not too overdone. The toppings were presented beautifully and had a lot of cheese added.
Coming to the pasta, Pesto was my least favorite on the menu as I felt it could do with more sauce. The others were quite good and I wouldn’t mind coming in again to have them.
A major drawback of the place may be the seating arrangement. They can probably expand as they’re doing quite well by now.
A totally worthy experience! Something I’d gladly suggest to all my readers.
Until then, happy eating! xx
