The Right Spirit – Spirito

Walking into Spirito, located at Media One Hotel, Dubai Media City, you’re taken by the mixture of its interiors. They are colourful, with bold colours on ceilings and mismatched chairs but also, have chandeliers hanging giving the place a soft feel. There weren’t many people when I walked in for brunch, but I could picture the place crowded at nights, with groups of people sharing Brazilian food over chit-chat.

They have a sharing concept which makes it great for this very purpose. Getting down to the food, we ordered the recommended Pastel De Carne (light pastry filled with braised beef) and Coxinha (smoked chicken croquettes) for starters. These were served with various sauces, my favourite being the chilli sauce that gave a spicy flavour. From these, I preferred the Coxinha. I felt the starters were a bit too oily, but the chicken was flavourful due to the smoking process.

All this non-veg had to make me feel guilty, to make myself feel better, I ordered some Polenta Fries on the side. Vegetarian is healthy right? πŸ˜€

For drinks, a Lemon Mint and Passion Fruit Mojito was asked for. The size of the drinks could be increased as they end in about four sips, and I’m the sort that likes to sip onto drinks till the very end of my meal. Which is why I had to ask for another one. This time I asked for their Strawberry Mojito and was pleased. The drink was refreshing as well as the perfect amount of sweet.

We decided to go for one meal for mains as Spirito does huge portions! This is mainly because of its sharing concept. Since, I was in the mood for some seafood, we opted for Frutos Do Mar from their menu. This consisted of tempura shrimps, grilled tiger prawns and buttered shrimps. My least favourite were probably the buttered shrimps. I felt that they weren’t properly cooked. However when they arrived after being re-cooked, it was burnt and inedible.

The tempura shrimps, on the other hand, were my favourite. They went perfectly with all the sauces provided.

After consuming what seemed like an entire bucket of seafood, I was too full for dessert. But, since I’m a shameless chocoholic, I went for Torta De Sonho De Valsa, in other words, a chocolate bon-bon cake.Β This cake was sinful! With nuts as base, and layers of chocolate and cream above, it made for a very guilty snack!

Oh and what’s more? To get into the Brazilian spirit, I ordered Mousse De Abacaxi. This was a pretty dish. A spoon of the sorbet and mousse, and I could taste the soft tones of pineapple with the tingling flavour of mint and chilli. A perfect end I must say.

Spirito boasts a great ambiance with even greater food. What’s best is this place is good for groups of people or even a date. Overall, a wonderful place to feel the Brazilian spirit!

Until next time. xx
